Meet the speakers

Eva Humphries
Known as the Wholefood Warrior, Eva Humphries is a UK clinical nutritionist and passionate advocate for nutritious, affordable eating. Today Eva is chairing our festival stage, keeping us on track across all four panel talks, bringing her expertise, her curiosity, and just the right questions.

Steve Lamb
Food writer and presenter known for championing sustainable food and nose-to-tail eating, and for his work with River Cottage. He’s an award-winning author, whose River Cottage Curing and Smoking Handbook received a Fortnum & Mason Highly Commended Food Book award, and one of Britain’s most knowledgeable voices on the art of preservation. If anyone can make you excited about salt and smoke, it’s Steven!

Mitch Tonks
Mitch Tonks is one of Britain’s most respected seafood voices! Restaurateur, author, and the founder of Rockfish, Mitch has spent his career championing British fish and the fishing communities behind it. He’s also the man behind today’s festival, which tells you everything you need to know about his commitment to the sardine.

Jemma Jewkes
Jemma Jewkes is the CEO of Devon Young Fishers, an organisation doing vital work to attract the next generation into the British fishing industry. At a time when the average age of a UK fisherman is 55, Devon Young Fishers exists to change that, keeping young people on the water and coastal communities alive for the future. Gemma is here to tell us why that matters, and what it actually takes to get young people excited about a life at sea

Matt Tebutt
Matt Tebbutt is a chef, author, and broadcaster, best known as the presenter of BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped. A regular at food festivals across the country, Matt brings the same warmth, wit, and no-nonsense food knowledge to the Brixham harbourside today. Expect good chat, strong opinions on lemon, and genuine enthusiasm for the fish in question

Loren Hiller
Representing the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Loren Hiller works at the heart of global sustainable fishing certification — the blue tick that tells you the fish on your plate was caught responsibly. Today she’s here to explain what that actually means in practice, and why it matters more than ever.

David Fitzgerald
Broadcaster and former BBC Radio Devon presenter David Fitzgerald had never eaten a sardine before he came to last year’s festival. He has now. Today he joins Eva Humphries to talk about what actually changes people’s minds about food, and why a single experience can shift a lifetime of habit.
